Our honest verdict

Different buyers. If you have an FP&A function whose job is deep, versioned, side-by-side modelling, Runway is excellent. If you are a founder or operator who needs scenario planning plus signals, attribution, experiments, board packs and stakeholder updates in one place — with published pricing and proactive AI — OakcapitaX is the better fit. The overlap is one module: scenarios and runway.

FAQs

Is OakcapitaX a Runway replacement?

If your only need is a deep, versioned modelling environment for a dedicated FP&A function, Runway is purpose-built and we won't pretend otherwise. If you also need attribution, signals, experiments, stakeholder updates, board packs and compliance in the same workspace, OakcapitaX replaces Runway and the four or five other tools you'd stitch around it.

Do you have Git-style version control on scenarios like Runway?

Partial today. The Scenario versions card in Planner snapshots every scenario change, shows a diff of drivers and assumptions, and lets you restore any previous version. We don't yet ship full branching/merging — that's on the roadmap.

Can I run multiple forecasts side by side — hiring plan, downside, new commission structure?

Yes. The multi-scenario dashboard compares scenarios against the live plan in real time, with sensitivity bands for burn-rate and cost-of-capital assumptions. Hiring impact and debt/financing are first-class.

Do you support plain-English modelling syntax with tags and filters?

Partial. OakcapitaX uses driver-based scenarios with named-range tags so non-modellers can change assumptions without writing formulas — but it isn't a full DSL like Runway's. If your team writes complex tagged models all day, Runway's syntax will feel more native.

Can I see pricing without a sales call?

Yes — published tiers live on our pricing page. Runway's Core, Growth and Enterprise tiers all say 'Unlock pricing' and require a form submission before any numbers are shared; that's a real barrier for early-stage founders evaluating tools independently.

Who owns this tool inside the company — Finance or operations?

Runway is built for a dedicated FP&A function inside Finance. OakcapitaX is built for the founder, COO, head of growth and head of finance to share — proactive signals, experiments, attribution, board pack and stakeholder updates all live in one workspace, so the operations side of the company doesn't have to wait on a Finance ticket to act.

We already have Runway. Should we rip it out?

Usually no. Keep Runway for deep FP&A modelling if your finance team is happy there. Add OakcapitaX for the growth-operations layer — signals, experiments, attribution, stakeholder updates, board packs, compliance. The two coexist; OakcapitaX writes back to your spreadsheets and core ERP via our own sync.
